This last weekend Tristan and I went down to visit his parents in Pullman. We went to an apple orchard and picked apples and made 3 gallons of apple cider. It's a pretty cool process: you first mash the apples into small pieces, then move the pieces to a press and squeeze the juice out of the apples. It takes about 20 pounds of apples to make 3 gallons of apple cider. Then, you pasteurize the apple cider by boiling the cider at 160 degrees and enjoying.
If you're interested in making hard apple cider, you just take the fresh cider and let it sit for 2 months or you can add yeast and filter the cider like you would beer.
