Last Friday night I succeeded in going into my first corn maze and it was quite an experience. Thankfully it was not of the haunted variety. It was creepy enough being out there in a corn field at night with people from OTHER GROUPS trying to jump out and scare us. Yes you read correctly... we were the innocent victims of misdirected mischief. Horrific... I know. After a few cases of mistaken identity, my friend Keli began yelling, "We're not in your group, okaaay!" This of course stuck with the rest of us and for the remainder of the night we would occasionally yell this phrase... always lingering on the okaaaaaaaaay.
Back to the maze itself. Since it was not haunted, what type of maze could it be? If you guessed a giant map of the state of Washington, then you would be correct (link to the farm's website: http://www.thefarm1.com/). Yes, the maze was in the shape of WA and all the paths corresponded to different state roads, trails and highways. And if that wasn't awesome enough... There were all sorts of WA landmarks built within the maze. Landmarks like the Space Needle (which was difficult to spot since the corn was so high), Capital, Peace Arch and Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
Now, I can't talk about my experience in the maze without bringing up everyone's favorite, the Pacific Crest Trail. This path was much narrower than the rest (meaning only one person could squeeze through at a time) and zigzagged up through the state. You might be wondering why this was so special. Well, it's awesomeness had everything to do with how we chose to get from one end of the trail to the other... and we chose to run. Trust me on this one, it's fun. Especially when the 1st person in line is not holding a flashlight, you are the 2nd person in line, you are holding a flashlight, you ask the 1st person in line what they would do if the light was gone and then you immediately cover the head of your flashlight. It is even better if this happens right before a sharp turn... thanks for being 1st in line Caroline :)
There you have it folks... my first corn maze experience. But before I sign off, I want to leave you with the only picture of the night (that turned out). Obviously... a fun time was had by all.
