I finally decided (with Jennie's help) to go to Ummelina International Spa, a zen-like oasis in the middle of the city. Even though it was pretty pricey, I thought it was a good idea to go here for my first one. I had a really stressful morning leading up to my 10:00 appointment, but as soon as I walked through the door, all of the tension and stress disappeared...
To start, they took me to the 'transition room' where I changed out of my clothes into a cream colored jumpsuit/robe thing and flip flops. Once I was done changing, I had to ring a gong to signal I was ready (yep, really). Then, they led me to the tea room where I got to sip on chai tea while my masseuse washed my feet in a bowl of warm water. She then walked me to the shower room so I could warm up my muscles. Oh my goodness. The shower itself was incredible. There were four jets on each side of the shower and a rain shower head coming out of the ceiling. It has so much pressure, I felt like I was drowning. But, I did not want to get out at all. I finally willed myself to shut off the water, because I knew what was coming next, my massage! I thought an hour was going to feel like forever, but I was wrong. Slowly but surely I was melted into a pile of nothingness... It was the most relaxing thing I've done ever! I literally couldn't even talk afterwards.
My thoughts overall? It was the most indulgent thing I have ever done for myself, and I probably won't buy another one, but would be more than excited to get one as a gift (hint, hint, haha). It was really hard to get over feeling guilty for doing it, because I realized how little attention I give to myself. From this experience, I've learned how important that is, even if it doesn't mean getting massages all of the time. I need to take time for myself, to think about and focus on me, for a little while at least.
So, I hope all of you realize the importance of taking care of yourself... And, you should definitely splurge on a massage, if you haven't had one before :)
(p.s. I know the 'rules' of our blog say that we have to take pictures to document our experiences, but I thought that would be a little weird, so here are some pictures from the Ummelina website instead!)
