Seriously... It has been about a week since I saw Jamie Cullum play a show and I still can't put it into words what it was like to be there. But, since this is a blog, I will try my best!
First of all, here are a few reasons why I like Jamie. Reason #1: he is British, which means he has an accent, and I am a sucker for a guy with an accent. Also, he combines an appreciation and respect for old jazz songs with a modern creativity that is so inspiring. Jamie is also an outstanding piano player (and even plays the strings on the inside of the piano as well as uses it as a drum!). Finally, he is such a crazy ball of energy on stage, and it is SO incredible to see someone do what they love more than anything in the whole world.
Basically, I have been in love with Jamie's music for about 4 years now and it has been one of my dreams to see him live. I wish I could see him play in a small, no-name pub in the middle of the English countryside... (which would conveniently knock off #51 on my list too!) But, I guess the Moore Theatre in Seattle is almost as good! (especially with Jennie as my date!)
I knew it was going to be a good show, but I didn't know HOW good it was actually going to be. It blew all of my expectations out of the water and I was left absolutely speechless! He started off the show by saying that he didn't have a set-list planned at all and was just going to play whatever he felt like playing... Even though he has four albums out, he seriously ended up playing ALL of my favorites (including Photograph, Mixtape, Wind Cries Mary, All at Sea, and Don't Stop the Music). He also came out into the audience and sang a few songs surrounded by everyone and then invited all of us to come crowd around the stage for the rest of the evening. And, at the end of the night, he came back on stage for TWO encores!
It still feels like a dream, but I have the videos and pictures (see below) and t-shirt and ticket to prove that I really was there. I will, without a doubt, see him again in concert, whenever and wherever I can.

Awesome! Isn't it great how seeing one of your favorite artists live can just sweep you off your feet and transform an ordinary evening into a night to remember?
ReplyDeleteP.S. that pic of you and Jennie is priceless... clearly you are both VERY excited!!
